80th Anniversary Furthering the cause of “unity without uniformity” Encouraging goodwill and cooperation among all people

Members of Jewish War Veterans of the US, Albany Post 105 and First Reformed Church of Schenectady will come together at the 58th annual remembrance and brotherhood award ceremony. Rabbis Linda Motzkin and Jonathan Rubenstein will be honored as co-recipients of the Four Chaplains Brotherhood Award.

The co-rabbis recently retired from Temple Sinai in Saratoga Springs after 36 years of joint leadership in the Capital Region’s religious community. They served as chaplains, Motzkin at Skidmore College and Rubenstein at Mt. McGregor Correctional Facility and Four Winds Hospital. And they sat on area boards and committees. Motzkin, one of only 13 female scribes in the world, and Rubenstein, with Slice of Heaven bakery project, began Bread and Torah in 2004.

As international educators and ambassadors of goodwill, the rabbis fulfill the vision of the Four Chaplains Award: imparting the principles of selfless service to humanity without regard to race, creed, ethnicity, or religious beliefs. Their deeds symbolize the legacy of the Four Chaplains.
